A Semester’s Worth of Work

I’ve finished all of my assignments and assessments for the semester, except for final exams of course. So what have I been doing all of this time?

Law of Obligations

Suitable to InterviewI appeared in moot court on behalf of a winery embroiled in a Trade Practices Act dispute. The bottle listed the alcoholic content of the wine as being upto 17%. However, the bottles received were between 12-14%.

Business Associations

I provided tag-team legal advice with my partner during a client interview. Our client was anxious to remove someone from their business for a number of reasons. Our advice concerned whether the business should be classed as a partnership or a joint venture. In the end our client left as angry as they came in. Clients can be difficult sometimes!

Property Law

I criticized and analyzed the judicial reasoning of Doodeward v Spence which concerns an action of detinue regarding the right to possession of a corpse. The corpse was a still-born two-headed child in the possession of Mr. Doodeward until it was taken from him by police. An inspector of police acted on the occasion of a prosecution of Mr. Doodeward for exhibiting the body in public.

Zach's EyeAdministrative Law

I prepared submissions regarding a Freedom of Information request. The Australian Centre for Independent Jouranlists was seeking all documents relating to complaints filed to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation regarding its coverage of the Middle East during a 5 year period. I haven’t heard back, but we should have won the request!

Final Exams

It may just be me, but I think that I keep getting the worst exam schedules ever. Coming up in August I’ve got this to look forward to.

Business Associations Tuesday 15th 3:00 PM
Administrative Law Wednesday 16th 8:00 AM
Property Law Wednesday 16th 6:30 PM
Law of Obligations Saturday 19th 8:00 AM

Canada Day

Go CanadaCanada Day celebrations were in full swing down in Australia. The Canadian Law Students Association organized a wonderful evening of BBQ, Hockey, Drinking, Jim Carrey,Trivia, and many friends. The night was a big success and Don’s Tavern saw a lot of activity in what is normally a slow semester.

I was responsible for preparing trivia for the night. Why not test your mettle against my trivial question making prowess?

Question: Which province has the highest concentration of moose in North America?

Canadian Soccer StarsI’ve also been showing my Canadian pride by playing in a World Cup Soccer Tournament being run at Bond University. Canadian friends Nate and Diego did well to organize a Canadian team in such short time.

Although Canada never made it to the World Cup we think we’ve got a fighting chance at this one. We’ve had wonderful support in our endeavour in the manner of delicious breakfasts being cooked for us after our games!

As usual, school toils onward!

Speaking of Canada, I should mention that Nadine and I plan on visiting the homeland in December. I’m looking forward to visiting back home, as it dawns on me that I’ll have aged an entire year away from my family and friends back in Canada.

See you soon eh?
