Australia Day

Posted at 2:00 am under Domestic, Celebratory, Australia

It’s Australia Day today!

From what I’ve gathered, everyone in Australia stops what they are doing for an entire day and imbibes an alcohol of choice. The day is a national public holiday, but thankfully Bond is a private institution that doesn’t enjoy public holidays! End result: Everyone involved with the institution gets to work instead of drink!

Australia Day, January 26, is the biggest day of celebration in the country and is observed as a public holiday in all states and territories.

On Australia Day we come together as a nation celebrate what’s great about Australia and being Australian. It’s the day to reflect on what we have achieved and what we can be proud of in our great nation.

It’s the day for us to re-commit to making Australia an even better place for the future.

What is great about Australia…

  • The people
  • Our land
  • Our diversity
  • The indigenous cultures
  • Our freedom and democracy
  • A fair go for all

    Hey Zack!

We have some Australian exchange students here at Queen’s, and there was apparently a celebration earlier this week. I unfortunately was very busy with school and could not go, but at least I could read about the premise of the festivies from your blog.

I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself down there! I have been keeping up with your stories. Can you believe that you have already been gone for almost half a year?!

    Cheers,
    Laura

I agree… I would like to read more about Nadine!

Also, I am thinking of doing some travelling this summer (July and August) and was throwing the idea of Australia around a bit. I would love to hear what you could recommend about the country! Toss me an e-mail at 2las1@qlink.queensu.ca as I’m not quite sure what e-mail to catch you at now-a-days!
