November Recap
We meet again!
I’ve been busy these past three weeks with all sort of miscellany. You’d probably be interested in about 50% of it. Here’s a list of things for you to pick and choose your enjoyment from.
Mrs. Zack
Props to my brother for the title. I’ve found an Aussie who appreciates my quirky sense of humour. She’s a genuinely nice gal. Her name is Nadine and we’re ‘an item’. Inquire within.
Thanksgiving Dinner
Fellow Canadians, remiss at missing our traditional dinner, decided to celebrate American thanksgiving. It was well attended and all attendees attempted to attend to our appetites by bringing ample food. Alas, I did not take any photographs. I was responsible for bringing salad.
Theatre in the Park
Some student society put on an event on a giant hill that lay behind the library. A stage was setup along with a very sketchy sound system. There were a number of very talented singers/musicians, and conversely there were some with considerably less talent. I decided to join in the festivities early in the evening and did a little rendition of Scott Joplin’s Maple Leaf Rag. Despite a few messy spots it was well received. Maybe one of these days I’ll actually polish a song off to perfection?
Mr & Mrs. Bond
I befriended a study-abroad student and she was participating in a beauty pageant. I told her I would attend, and I did. Preparation included crafting a sign reading “Cheryl”. I later found out that her name is spelt “Sheryl”, already on my way out the door and away from my raw materials it was time for craftiness. Nadine suggested that we cut the “C” in half and turn it into an “S”. Simply genius. The party was held at The Drink nightclub and was an enjoyable event.
School
Yes, I am still attending school. Haven’t had all that much formal feedback on my work yet. This coming week is the last week of classes and is largely full of review. Following that there’s a week off for study purposes and then exams to be written. I’m here till the very end!
Schoolies
Hmm… how to describe Schoolies. There’s certainly nothing like it in Canada that I could relate to. Essentially, Schoolies is a time where all Australian students leaving high school congregate in one geographic vicinity. That vicinity happens to be the Gold Coast. I guess there are other spots that they go to, but this one is the ‘big wave’. (I made that up)
With that out of the way I can tell you about my personal anecdote. As I was heading into a nightclub I saw one of these schoolies kids being carted away in a paddy wagon. I learned of his fate the next day on the news. Apparently he was busted for holding a number of ecstacy tablets. I saw him try and violently force his way out of confinement. It was amusing and sad.
